Use the bottom rating label to identify an SRTH, understand the June 2026 fire recall, and follow Vornado’s direct refund process without guessing.
About 255,000 U.S. heaters are recalled, but they are one specific Vornado model: the SRTH Small Room Tower Heater. Turn the heater off, unplug it, let it cool, and read the silver rating label on the bottom. If it says TYPE SRTH, stop using it and register directly with Vornado for the refund process; the logo alone does not determine whether your heater is included (U.S. recall record 26-532).
Check The TYPE Field Before Anything Else
Once the heater is unplugged and cool enough to handle, place it on a stable surface and locate the silver rating label underneath. Read the text immediately following TYPE.

Why The Brand-Level Warning Sounds Reasonable
The cautious reaction to a headline about recalled Vornado heaters is understandable: stop using every heater carrying that brand until its status is clear. That avoids continuing to run an affected unit when the owner cannot remember a model name.
The opposite reaction is understandable too. Someone who remembers hearing about a particular heater but not “SRTH” may assume a familiar-looking Vornado is unaffected. Recall coverage often includes model, date-code and serial-number rules that are difficult to retain from a short news report.
The consensus is right about the immediate safety step: if identification is uncertain, unplug the heater until it can be checked. It is wrong only when brand recognition becomes the final decision. The June 2026 recall does not cover every Vornado heater, and an affected SRTH is not excluded because it appears to work normally. The printed model designation resolves both errors.
An SRTH Has A Specific Label, Shape And Color
The controlling consumer identifier is TYPE SRTH on the bottom rating label. Photograph the complete label before registration so the TYPE, date code and serial number remain available if the claim form requests them.
The recalled SRTH is a small tower heater sold in black and ice white. It is approximately 12.5 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter, with low-heat, high-heat and fan-only settings. The front carries “Vornado,” with a “V” behind the word. These details help locate the right label, but they do not replace it.
A black tower-shaped Vornado is not automatically an SRTH. A heater marked TYPE SRTH is not excluded because its purchase date, retailer or date code differs from what an owner remembers seeing in a news report.
Health Canada provides two additional identifiers:

Those numbers support identification, but Health Canada likewise narrows the affected product to the SRTH model rather than the whole brand (Health Canada SRTH notice).
The heaters were sold nationwide through Kohl’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, Ace Hardware, Vornado.com and Amazon.com from August 2013 through May 2026 for $40 to $50, according to the CPSC. Retailer, price and purchase date are supporting details, not substitutes for the TYPE field.
The 2026 SRTH Rule Supersedes The JUL22 Shortcut
The current and earlier heater notices use different eligibility rules:

The March 2023 SRTH recall was limited to units with JUL22 at the beginning of the serial number. It concerned manufacturing miswiring that could cause overheating (March 2023 SRTH notice).
That old date-code rule no longer limits the broader SRTH action. A JUL22 unit qualifies, but so does an SRTH with another readable date code. Vornado’s current page states that all SRTH Small Room Tower Heaters are recalled, even though registration collects the date code and serial number for identification and validation (Vornado’s SRTH recall page).
The VH2 rule remains narrower. A heater must show both TYPE VH2 and JUL24 or AUG24 to match the January 2025 notice. The defect can allow the power cord to partially detach from the enclosure, creating electric-shock and fire hazards. Qualifying owners are offered a free replacement (CPSC VH2 recall notice).
Do not transfer a date-code requirement from one model to another. TYPE SRTH alone establishes coverage under the broad 2026 action; TYPE VH2 alone does not establish coverage under the 2025 VH2 action.
The SRTH Fan Can Stop Moving Cooling Air
The 2026 hazard involves the fan assembly. The fan blade can become displaced or detach from the motor shaft, slowing or stopping the airflow that carries heat away from the enclosure and internal components.
The resulting heat can melt the enclosure or internal parts. The official description says melted components can ignite and a flame can breach the enclosure if the thermal cutoff or fuse does not interrupt power in time.
Vornado received 32 reports of overheating associated with fan displacement, including eight fires and one report of smoke inhalation, according to the U.S. recall record. Those reports do not predict whether an individual heater will fail, which is why an apparently normal SRTH remains covered.
Do not switch it on to listen to the fan or test its airflow. A successful test does not establish that the fan will remain attached. Do not open the enclosure, reposition the blade, replace a fuse or attempt a repair.
Register With Vornado, Not The Retailer
If the label says TYPE SRTH, keep the heater unplugged and photograph the complete unit and bottom label. Record the TYPE, date code and serial number exactly as printed.
For a U.S. claim, use recalls.vornado.com or call 844-205-7978, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time. Vornado says not to return the heater to the store.
The remedy language differs slightly between official sources. The CPSC describes a full refund, while Vornado’s page states a $49.99 refund after registration is validated. Confirm the current amount, documentation requirements and payment terms during registration.
The process requires product photographs and proof of destruction, but the supplied government notice does not establish the exact destruction technique. Do not cut, dismantle or discard the heater based on unofficial instructions. Follow the current claim prompts and retain copies of submitted images and confirmation messages.
The available notices also do not resolve whether a receipt is always required or whether every secondhand owner qualifies. If purchase records are unavailable, submit the identifying information you have and ask Vornado how to proceed.
Canadian Owners Have Separate Instructions
Canadian owners should stop using an affected SRTH and contact Vornado Air at 1-888-240-2768, email srthrecall@vornado.com, or use recalls.vornado.com.
Health Canada reports that affected heaters were produced from 2013 through 2022 and sold through May 2026. Those are different timelines: a unit manufactured during the production period could have been sold later.
The Canadian notice says recalled products cannot be redistributed, sold or given away in Canada. Keep the heater unplugged and follow the Canadian refund and disposal instructions rather than transferring it to someone else.
The U.S. notice estimates approximately 255,000 units, while the Canadian notice reports 212,000 units sold in the United States. The supplied evidence does not reconcile those figures. Neither estimate determines an individual heater’s status; the TYPE SRTH label does.
Owners outside the United States and Canada should keep an SRTH unplugged and consult Vornado or their national product-safety authority for local remedy and disposal instructions.
Another TYPE Requires Its Own Recall Check
A heater with another TYPE does not match the June 2026 SRTH recall. That does not prove it has never been recalled.
Vornado’s recall index separately lists the VH2 Whole Room Heater, VH101 Personal Heater, Sunny CS Nursery Heater and VH110 Whole Room Heater. Each notice can have different model, date-code or serial-number criteria (Vornado recall index).
If the label is missing or unreadable, leave the heater unplugged. Photograph the label area under bright, indirect light along with the heater’s front and sides, then ask Vornado for identification help. Do not infer the model from its color, controls, retailer or housing shape.
For the June 2026 question, the result remains narrow and exact: TYPE SRTH means recalled; another readable TYPE means the heater is not part of that specific SRTH action.
